Baen al Jasraen

This property is likely occupied by an Emirati family.

Between Two Bridges...a few years ago, expats wouldn't have dreamed of living "off the island". Many western expats flocked to neighbourhoods like Khalidiya-located just off the corniche. However, as parking woes have continually increased and residents look for more spacious bits of property, areas like Baen al Jasraen are becoming more desirable. Once a neighbourhood populated by UAE military officers, this part of town is now home to three high-end hotels that bring with them wonderful bars and restaurants (see my previous post on the new Fairmont Hotel that's just opened).

This shot was taken along the waterway that runs through Between Two Bridges. I don't know that this is a natural waterway. I've always supposed that it was man-made. It is salt water, though.

Magnificent looking building. And a lovely sunset photo! I like the name of the place too, but I wouldn't have known if you didn't translate it for us.

What a fascinating, fabulous Emirati family home! Wish we could see inside . . .

Once a neighbourhood populated by UAE military officers

Actually that part is misleading.

Bain Al Jisrain is the area located BETWEEN the 2 bridges. All land in BTB was given to regular citizens.

What you are talking about is "Madinat al Thubat" or Officers city, which is on the RIGHT side of Mussafah bridge leaving Abu Dhabi. BTB is on the right.

That area is entirely owned by the military and is used as housing for officers of a certain grade and above (I think 1 star general and above... or maybe colonel and above, not sure)

So no, BTB was NOT and is NOT populated by military officers. Maybe a few people who were on the land lists and were granted land there might have been officers, but it was never a place for officers.

I love how everyone wants to act like Blogs are the new news papers yet almost every UAE blog I run into has at least one mistake in every post.

Makes our blog even more important. Nice pics though. Too bad you have no research for what you state.

This is a call to everyone to please step outside the right vs. left paradigm. While there are important issues worth debating within this paradigm, all of them will be moot if we do not focus on a much greater issue outside this paradigm. Thomas Jefferson warned of wealth concentrating to such an extent that it threatened the state. Nowadays the media has taught us all very well to ridicule anyone who talks of central banks usurping the power of government. Well now I suppose the media will have to laugh at themselves, as many outlets from Newsweek to the Financial Times of London are openly discussing the creation of a "bank of the world" that will control economic policies of every nation. I invite you to watch this video, which details how this is currently taking place. While it focuses on our current officials' cooperation with these plans, it steps out of the typical political paradigm by highlighting the cooperation of both parties. The sequel to this video is now available as well, which fleshes out the ideas presented in the first video with more facts and expert opinion. Please do not look to politicians to protect us. Only we can protect us. And our first step must be to reach out to police and military. Without their cooperation, the global elite won't have the muscle to exercise their will of oppression. Please share this oath-keepers website, with them. If you would like to learn more about the timely issues raised in these videos please visit this alternative news website, where these videos were produced.

@ABIT: I'm not actually confusing Officers' City w/ BTB. I based that comment on a number of students of mine who actually live in BTB. They must be misinformed about the demographics of their neighbourhood.

@Magic Eye and Julie: Thanks for stopping by!

I lived there for most of my childhood. My father has land/houses there. You are wrong.

The majority of land owners in BTB are of bedu tribes such as Al marrar and Al Khaili (and the lot.) However, some Harmoodis also own land there. This was before the govt made the smart decision of allotting plots to families/ethnicities. as is the case in khalifa A.

Few military families were alloted land there. They were given housing in Officer's city, what was "old" mafraq, and "old" Mushrif.

@ABIT: Please read my above comment. I appreciate your contributions and correction. I made the statement based on what my adult students had shared. If that's erroneous, then your clarification gives my readers an interesting piece of BTB history. However your delivery leaves a great deal to be desired. Misleading people involves intent. This blog is anecdotal. I share what I know based on personal experiences or what's been shared with me. It's all informal 'research' and I would caution anyone against using blogs as 'news' as you suggested.

Even though I'd like to believe I enjoy all macho activities, I'm with you here. I'd rather take pictures of a beautiful sunset than a formula one race. Plus a sunset is much quieter and doesn't pollute the air. Nobody has ever coughed because they inhaled too much sun.
